In Reply To: I'm a second year student at G-town law and international corporate law is my focus. I chose G-town for its international law fame. The school has both the hard-fact kudos (the curriculum, professors and job placement) as well as prestiege amongst international practicioners (all of the international firms I interviewed with heavily recruited G-town students). Keep in mind that I made my decision after getting into both UPENN and NYU. Though I think that NYU does have a slightly better international program than G-town, as far as prestiege in the field amongst lawyers, its about the same. If there is any discrepancy between the two, it is more than made up for by G-town's DC location (see earlier post). As far as UPENN goes,...I recognize the Ivy League thing, but that is far more important in college than in law school...I got in there and G-town was still clearly the better choice (for an international practice).
Message: I recently graduated from GULC so naturally I am partial. Penn is an excellent school, but G-town is much better for int'l law. For example, GULC offers a variety courses in international trade, some of which are taught by John Jackson. The courses which are taught span both private and public international law. In addition, GULC has excelled year after year in the Jessup International Moot Court competition, an activity which you may be interested in participating in. Finally, the international LL.M. class has a very international flavor which I doubt you could find anywhere else, except NYU. This is a good thing because international students often provide excellent insight in the classroom. They also tend to be a fun bunch. Good luck.
