i believe that it is indeed the average as reported by the career placement center for all private sectore grads. |

In other words, you have not seen any actual hard data firsthand for yourself.
The career center will have employment statistics for its law graduates including:
Class Year
Number of graduates
Number of graduates reporting
Number of graduates employed
(within 6 months, 1 year, etc...)
Size of firm
Type of firm
Other (including business i.e. non-law)
Government
Academia
They will, or should, show in each category the number of graduates REPORTING who accepted the position type as well as a LOW, MEDIAN, and HIGH salary for the position (of those also REPORTING the salary).
In addition, other summary statistics will show total employed and average salary for ALL graduates, etc...
I seriously doubt that 125K is the average (btw 'MEDIAN' is not the same as 'AVERAGE') salary for all employeed private sector grads. If that were the case, the class anchor would be at Skadden.
Will the class anchor land a 125K job?? NO. To average him/her out, someone near the top would need to land a 220K job. Since first-year Associates make 125K, that is very unlikely.
I would suggest instead of spreading inaccurate rumors, you post verifiable facts.
Career centers don't place graduates well. Their primary function is to lie, distort, and otherwise inflate employment data so that the next class of entering guppies, should one be smart enough to look, stays around for 3 years to foot the bill.
