I have been well served by having a separate BBA in Accounting. Then I got interested in Computers and converted the Accounting Degree into a computer informations systems BBA. I am currently working on my MBA and that too is opening up new doors. I'm not attending any high-speed Ivy league school...I've acquired everything from the University of Texas at El Paso. I'm not going for the "gold" so I'm well served. I've listened to all the loved ones who told me "you're too this or too that" for this job. Do what YOU want...the money comes.
I should point out that the University of Phoenix runs a radio ad in the Southwest that proclaims that "every kid in the mail room has a bachelors degree". Definately getting your ticket punched with more education can't hurt. It also retains perspective if you realize that only 25% of Americans even have a 4 year degree. We are a small percentage indeed.
I'm older and can share that going for the "gold" may burn out the younger ones and putting too much emphasis on the "school" rather than your capabilities and personality can hurt. I surely don't want an arrogant younger person with no concept of the world working with me!
I'm able to find good, rewarding work where ever I go because my expectations were about being happy and being comfy in my own skin. I possess ethics and values about business.
Money and the school I come from surely don't set me up for that. On the flip side though...I can see where it won't hurt either.
Bottom line? Do what makes you happy. No one can ever have too much education and you will always have new doors open up...work or otherwise!
I'm pursuing a PhD just because I LOVE to learn as well as teach. If they make something beyond the PhD...I'll be there!
