I need to choose a practice area at my law firm. I want something that will leave as many career doors open as possible as I may wish to move into VC/I-banking later on. I have first-hand experience of building a start-up and have learned that tax knowledge is invaluable (i.e. we paid a lot in tax that could have been reduced with better corporate and financial structuring). Hence my interest in tax. Plus I like the legal strategies involved in tax planning. I feel that tax experience would be useful in VC/I-banking but do VCs and I-banks see it that way? Would they prefer an M & A or IT background?
