The lawschool will look at what degree the recommendation writer knows you. I wouldn't use a recommendation from the Dean if you could avoid it. He probably doesn't know you well, and even if he does, most would assume he's not personally knowledgable of your work. Its generally best to get recommendations from two different professors, in different fields, like say English and Enconomics. Most schools are knowledgable of prominent law professors (and perhaps some other fields) and will actually ask for more, or allow more, go with a recommendation from a job, or something.. compute into your admittance score "bonus points" for lack of a better word, if they are knowledgable of the professor writing your recommendation. Two is usually the limit for recommendations, but if they -my $0.02
