In Reply To: 3.8 gpa (finance and english)/159 lsat. white male (why wasnt i born a nigerian cripple?) from a lower half top 50 undergrad. i was wondering, since my gpa and lsat dont fit together nicely in terms of schools 75th and 25th percentiles, what top tier schools weigh gpa more than normal? i applied to mich, penn; colorado, virginia, duke, usc, ucla, wisc., ariz, and tulane; i assume im pretty much a goner for a lot of these, but i had a relatively strong undergrad. career with lots of legit. publications, graduated summa cum laude, etc. any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Message: It depends on your entire application. Factors to be weighed will be: (1) Prestige and credibility of your major at your undergrad school (i.e., what the 3.8 actually says about your academic record) (2) Work experience after school (3) Internship experience before school (4) Recommendations If you don't have very strong backing for each of these points, you will have trouble getting into a top 20 school.
