In Reply To: I'm an engineer at a major defense contractor (5 years experience), looking to make a move into law. My undergrad GPA was 3.46 at a tough (though not well known outside of the field) school in Computer Science. I will be completing my Master's in CS (same school, 4.0 so far) at about the time I will be applying to law school. I haven't taken the LSAT yet, but I scored 2300 on the GREs (perfect in logic games section). Assuming I get a comparable score on the LSATs (big assumption I know) is there any chance that I could get into a top school, like Harvard, Yale, Columbia, NYU?
Message: With regard to your school, admissions boards will find out what they need to in order to evaluate your Ugrad GPA compared to your classmates (I've heard, and this may be untrue, that Grad GPA counts for much less than UGrad GPA). With regard to the GRE-LSAT correlation, I've heard from people who took the GRE first that the LSAT games section is much more difficult. I haven't taken the GRE yet, but the LSAT section isn't too challenging if you understand how the questions are asked. I'm sure you'll do fine if you review a couple of games sections. As for top schools, it really does depend on LSAT. Your work experience and Masters degree will definitely be valuable in the admissions process but only AFTER you've gotten into their "maybe" pile (if your lsat/gpa combo gets you into the "yes" pile then they will only glance at your other credentials). What get's you in the door is the Ugrad GPA and LSAT combo. Check out the LSAC lsat/gpa calculator, that may give you a better idea of what to shoot for when taking the lsat. http://officialguide.lsac.org/search/cgi-bin/lsatgpa.asp do note, though, that this is not an absolute guide to admissions. In general, use it to see what lsat/gpa combo will get "your foot in the door" Hope that helped.
