I graduated from Cal-Berkeley with a 3.21 in anthropology (lower than the Cal average for law school applicants of 3.4). How much will my school matter in the whole issue--because i don't find it fair at all that at Berkeley high grades are hard to come by and at some other schools there is grade inflation? Oh yeah, and my grades show marked improvement over four years...how much does all that count? I guess the most important question is that i find it most unfair to compare grades from a no-name school to the number one public school in the country. |

Kenn-
It seems your real concern is whether you will get into a prestigous law school. Don't worry, for better or worse, law schools take Berkeley's reputation into account. In my case, I received a much lower UGPA (below 2.8) than you from Berkeley - but in a science major - and I am attending a national (USN&WR Top 14) school. Just do well on the LSAT, write a good personal statement and give the impression of being an interesting person who will contribute to the educational environment.
There are probably some out there who think it is grossly unfair that I was accepted at a top school with such a poor UGPA. You may be right. However, in my defense I scored well on the LSAT and I have done very well in law school, making Dean's list and receiving a merit based scholarship.
