your posting but I don't quite see what you are getting at either. When I asked about the appropriateness of addenda, I was asking how beneficial it was to answer questions that adcomms might ask such as, "What happened during this semster that caused her grades to be particularly low?" |

Shelly22, the two people who posted before you obviously are confused and don't know what they're talking about. When I was applying to law school in the early '90s, I had one relatively bad year at college that was explained by the fact that I had been in and out of the hospital about 3 times (my other years' grades were fine). I thought I would be doing both myself and the admissions committees a disservice if I did not make sure they understood these particular circumstances. I should point out that I did NOT make excuses or try to make people feel sorry for me; I did very matter-of-factly recount the dates of my hospitalizations and put them in the context of the number of classes and mid-terms that I missed. I also had very strong LSATs (99.3rd percentile) and, if I say so myself, a great essay, so perhaps my addendum was less of a deciding factor than I like to think it was. But what you should know is that I applied to 11 schools (all within the top 15) and got into 10 of them.
