In Reply To: I'm 24, almost 25, and graduated from Johns Hopkins in 2000, with right at a 2.5 GPA. My GPA over the last 5 semesters was about a 2.9. My first three semesters were lower, before I changed majors from engineering to political science. I ran my own company the entire time I was in college, working 40+ hours per week, employing up to 15 people and achieving approx. $5 million in revenue in our peak year. This obviously distracted from my school work. My personal statement I've been told by many people is an excellent account of my time in school and how I learned to balance the two and learned what is truly important in life. Given that I graduated from a school known for being difficult, where should I apply. I just got my LSAT back and got a 168. Any advice would be appreciated it.
Message: Get the LSAC CD and apply to a dozen or 2 dozen schools. Your numbers and your experiences are unorthodox. Some (maybe most) schools won't even get to your PS and chuck your application on the numbers alone. But if the application fees don't matter to you, there's nothing stopping you from applying to the entire top 10 and a good handful of schools in the top 25 and throughout the 1st tier; throw in some safety schools and you're set. If you're using the CD there actually isn't much extra work. Oh, and the running-your-own-company thing cuts both ways. Some will see it as a lack of commitment to your long-term education. They may wonder how devoted you are to the practice of law. You might want to address that in your PS as well. Good Luck
