Hi, I'd like to go to law school and practice non-profit environmental law. Any suggestions as to how to do this - I don't care about the school tier, my eventual goal is to work on int'l environmental issues and also salary isn't a big issue for me. I'm kind of on a mission :) I know this is a kind of weird post, but I'm serious. Thanks for any thoughts. |

broth,
There are some schools that have programs which emphasize environmental law. Vermont Law School and Lewis & Clark are generally recognized as the best environmental programs in the country. Also, Georgetown may have the best of both worlds: environmental and international.
It is difficult to jump directly from law school into a non-profit organization because they generally seek people with experience. However, there are openings in private practice and in government agencies for recent grads.
I applaud the fact that you are on a "mission," but don't rule out the possibility of working in the private sector. The world truly is "gray." Besides, sometimes you can make the "greatest impact" by advising clients in the private sector.
