In Reply To: The gist of the question is, what is the key for doing well in law school. I've been here for two months now, and I've been doing all the work, still, I can't help but worry about the exams. Everyone gives the generic "Bust your ass!" advice, but this isn't particularly useful. What does that mean? Read the cases over and over? I think not. The key is bringing all of the information together. My question, posed to successful law students is, how do I do that? What study aids/supplements (if any) are useful? etc.
Message: jesus, figure it out. it's different for every class. some professors are very black-letter oriented, so you try to extract the rule from every case you see. other professors, usually torts and property, are nuts about policy, so you make sure you're adept at stringing those arguments together. flowchart the shit out of process-based classes like contracts and civil procedure. read as many hypos as you can, and apply what you've learned. dream up hypos when you're in the shower. as for study aids, go to the bookstore and look at them all. if you think they look like they could help you think about the subject matter more clearly, buy them. if they just make everything look more chaotic, don't. first, though, i'd double-check your ass. you may not have busted it.
