Most lawyers make 50-75K ?? And this is a bad thing. I can find a hell of alot of people that would love to make that much. You people are so jaded.
Just another unsuccessful bitter lawyer on this board. Thanks for playing, but don't come again. |

Actually rallymark, I am not a lawyer. (The heading ??Why I DIDN??T choose laws chool?? should have tipped you off to that fact.)
My comment about income was that, for the average hours worked, and for the average debt load carried by many lawyers, the pay is often not that great. And that is in fact true for many lawyers. When I loved in Washington State a year ago, starting pay for attorneys in mid-size firms was about $52-60k. That is not a great deal of money when you are nursing $80k in student loans, and live in a relatively expensive city. Yes, some lawyers DO earn more. But for every lawyer making $150k+, there are 10 making the aforementioned salary. I point this out simply because many prospective or would-be lawyers are under the impression that they will be on easy street once they graduate from law school. I have many recently graduated lawyer friends that will tell you different! In fact, several of them can??t find a job, period.
And I did not state that lawyers work ??80-100 hours??, as you state. I said ??50-80 hours??, which is true for many of them.
So, how DO I know all this? Easy. I??ve worked as a paralegal in two different law firms, and in a corporation. I??ve worked in litigation and all facets of corporate law. In the process, I??ve made many attorney friends, and have ??interviewed?? most of them about the practice of law. My thoughts on being a lawyer are derived from my conversations with them, and three years worth of front-row seat observation.
But I doubt you??ll have to worry about any of this rallymark. I can tell from the tone, content and tortured logic of your messages that you likely won??t be going to a law school anytime soon.
