I go to college in the South (a very renowned one at that) and have never come into contact with anything of that sort, while even having a large part of the school's pop come from the South, along with every other part of the United States.
In all honesty, they're just politer in the South, the women wear more dresses, overall the climate is just more formal than some places. Go visit Atlanta, Chapel Hill, Raleigh-Durham, Charleston, Nashville, McLean, or even the smaller Southern towns before you make another uniformed/asinine comment.

Because blacks were always a part of life in the South, they're more integrated ino everyday life down there. But McLean is hardly a typical Southern town.
