In Reply To: I'm trying to figure if my reasons for wanting to go to law school are the "right" reasons. "Right" reasons meaning am I really really commited to taking 3 yrs of law school and paying for it too, or is this just a phase I'm going through. I wanted to know why other people went to law school and how that worked out for them. So, why DID you choose to go to law school?? Give me the top 3 reasons.
Message: Coming out of college, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, but I knew it wasn't business or science. I was interested in government and political issues. I have relatives who are lawyers and started to think that it was a career that would afford a lot of choices (big money v. small money, work hard v. not-so-hard, prestige v. not pretigious, work as a lawyer v. not, do good v. not, and others I can't think of). In short, I wanted options and flexibility and the benefit of a better understanding of how the world worked. My experience has been that the LAW does provide a wide range of options, but the individual LAWYER may not be able to have all of those options. Grades, contacts and luck will always be factors (see other posts on those issues).
