In Reply To: First, as far as rankings are concerned, Northwestern is almost universally (in nearly every ranking I have seen) placed higher than Georgetown by one to three spots. The difference is not large, but is certainly quite consistent. Second, I disagree with the following to a certain extent: "Further, Gtown's campus and the area of Gtown is virtually unmatched by any other 'urban' university in the entire country...at least in my view." Northwestern's law school isn't exactly in a backwoods location. It is in a superb downtown Chicago location near Lake Michigan only a few blocks from most of the good stuff in Chicago (firms, businesses, etc). I would highly rank Northwestern's location. It's parent campus in nearby Evanston is a little less exciting, but the law school's locale is top notch. Third, I think the opportunities available to someone at Northwestern are at least as diverse as those in DC with the exception of government positions for obvious reasons. New York is the legal capital of the US with Chicago occupying the #2 spot; there is certainly no dearth of opprtunity. Fourth, one might wish to consider the student size when comparing and contrasting the schools. Northwestern is significantly smaller than Georgetown (but what school isn't?). It's about 650 v. 1900 students. The choice between Georgetown and Northwestern can be an incredibly easy or difficult one depending on how well defined one's goals and interests are. Georgetown is probably better connected with the government and international scence whereas Northwestern is better connected to big firms, corporate work, and the like. Both schools are in lower portion of the Top 15 and the difference in ranking between the two is negligible despite its consistency. Finally, I'd be curious to hear the numbers of the two other people in this discussion. Northwestern and Georgetown are pretty close to identical in their admissions numbers.
Message: I'm also interested in hearing lsat/gpa's. Both schools are amoung my top choices (i'm really interested in nu's small bus. clinic) and i probably need a "swift kick in the ass of realism" about my chances at them (with a 3.6/164)
