Read your law school application closely. Some schools ask for disclosure of convictions only, while others ask if you have ever been arrested or convicted of a crime. Now if you get your record expunged, whether you were convicted or not, you may have a difficult situation. Technically you can deny an arrest or conviction if your record was expunged. But for certain jobs (FBI, CIA, etc.) and certain licenses (the practice of law) expunged records can be viewed by the proper examining authorities. If this happened when you applied for your legal license, you probably wouldn't be denied your license but it could lead to further examination and review by the bar. But technically, it is legal and acceptable. Definately look into getting your record expunged. You don't want people digging that shit up when you run for office. Oh yeah, some states will allow expungment of convictions for minor crimes if it was a first offense.
Now whether it will affect your application to schools. Probably not if it was a misdemeanor and a good amount of time has passed. But try not to worry about it too much. Would you really want to go to a school that has a problem with something you did several years ago as a teenager? |

My concern is getting in debt
from Law school and not being
able to carry the thing out,
Well technically it happened
when I was 18 but I did not
get convicted until about 2
years later, I was supposed
to be in a pretrial
intervention program where
after restitution was paid
they would throw out the
charges. I missed seeing my
probation officer, and she
kicked me out of the program,
they told me that it was up
to my probation officer if
she wants to keep me on the
program, by this time I am
really trying to get my life
together, so I call her on
some real stuff and tell her
straight up like, look I
know that I have not been
seeing you like I am supposed
to but from now on, I will
do what I am supposed to
do. I was honest, she was
like no, I guess she wanted
me to tell her some
"cocamamy" story. Well to
make a long story short
She kicked me out of the
program and they charged me
for the offense, so now I
am convicted, I had a
public pretender who
absolutely, did nothing to
argue my case. I think
that I have a chance in
over turning the
conviction. I am a month shy
of 23
I figure about time I get
this restitution paid
off,in the next 2yrs,
it will be close
to the time I will enter Law
School. I guess I will
see what the Lord says.
