In Reply To: I read the little blurb about law recruiters only heading to Rutgers in search of color. How is Brooklyn Law School considered by comparison. Will going to Brooklyn Law School give you good odds of getting into a large NY firm? Do you need to make law review and be at the top of the class there? How do a candidates prospects differ between Brooklyn and Fordham?
Message: I don't think there's much difference between Brooklyn and Rutgers other than cost. The only people from Brooklyn who get jobs in large firms are people at the very top of their class on law review. Prospects are much better from Fordham than from Brooklyn. Large firms take from the top 1/4th at Fordham and only the top 10% at Brooklyn. Plus a Fordham degree doesn't have the "My Cousin Vinny" smell to it. If you get into Fordham, don't think twice about Rutgers or Brooklyn. If you have to choose between Rutgers and Brooklyn, I'd choose Rutgers because of the cost and the fact that NJ is a less competitive legal market than NYC. BTW, don't make the mistake of assuming that because you got into Fordham that you'll be a lock on the top of the class at Brooklyn. Surprisingly Brooklyn attracts some very strong students by giving very large scholarships to people with good numbers. The bottom 1/4th of the class is extremely weak (shouldn't even be in law school) but the top 1/4th of the class is pretty strong and could have gotten in much better schools.
