my overall gpa is around a 3.4/3.5. I think this whole expulsion thing was a poor choice of words - i was warned by the college that i needed to improve my grades or risk being removed from school. No problems with the law - as a matter of fact one of my strong points has been my hundreds of ours of work i have done with children during college. I think my lsat, my valedictorian status at a top school and extra activities make me a very attractive candidate regardless of my freshman year. I was an 18 year old kid - I'm now a 28 year adult, and I'm sure that is not lost on any committe. I get tired sometimes when all i hear on this board is crap about numbers - it's just not true!!! |

Unfortunately it is all about the numbers especially at a school like GW. Mid tier 1 schools are slaves to the numbers. Moreso than higher ranked schools. Someone on this board mentioned an applicant accepted at Northwestern but rejected by BU/BC.
It all comes down to your LSAT score. According to the GW website, only about 35% of applicants with between a 3.25 and a 3.49 and 160 to 164 were accepted. If by "low 160's", you mean 164/163, then GW is a target school. If you mean 160/161, then GW is a huge reach. BTW, according to the LSAC calculator, someone with a 3.4/164 combination had only a 51-58% chance of getting in. That probably means that only people with those numbers who have 'extras' get in. Since you've got 'extras', then you're probably okay. But apply really early and write a great personal statement.
Grades mean less the farther you've been out of school but LSAT is the most important factor regardless of your age or experience.
