In Reply To: I'm in Top 10% after 1st year at Georgetown and am a Law Fellow for next year (teaching small section of new students Legal Research & Writing); I am debating whether to try to transfer to Yale, Harvard or Stanford. I really don't want to move. The only reason would be for name only. Plus, I hear that if you want a really good appellate clerkship or, perhaps a Supreme Court clerkship, you almost need to be at those schools--or at least it helps you immensely. Any advice??
Message: Go for it! All you have to lose is the application fees. On the other hand, no you don't have to be only at HYS to get an appellate or Supreme Court clerkship. G-Town is a national school. I think thats what they're looking for. If you're comfortable in DC, stay where you are, I think you've got pretty much the same opportunities as at HYS. But, then again, you'll probably regret NOT applying to transfer so if you can spare about $200 for the application fees, you might as well do it and then decide if you actually get into one of those schools. I think you have a good shot because you did well at a well regarded school. Just my .2 cents. I'm not even a 1L yet but I would love to have been accepted at Georgetown =)
