In Reply To: Hi Vault Members As I become more and more apprehensive about law school applications, I turn to you guys to help me out. The posts I have read here have been informative and insightful and I look forward to hearing from you all. Now as I look up sites on the internet for advice into what makes a good applicant the information begins to get repetitive and all blurs together. What I want to hear (or rather read) are some actual profiles from some of you who are attending or have graduated from top 25 law schools. What did you do in your undergrad career that got you into your school? I already know that there is no set path for admissions or else there would be no need for this post. I am just trying to get a better view of a successful candidate at top law schools. I know it is already hard for me since I attend a small Christian college in central Massachusetts with no name recognition. But I am African-American so I hold a glimmer of hope. I thank you in advance for replies and look forward to hearing from you. PS Do you think dreadlocks are a drawback during law school admission interviews
Message: I'd have to agree with dancehallcrasher in telling you not to count on your URM status to get you into a top program. Your best bet is to assemble a great application package, including of course, a great GPA and LSAT. Letters of recommendation are very important, too, in my opinion. I think they can "make or break" an application (along with the personal statement). Anyway, here's my info: Male, African-American, CA resident, B.A. in English, Stanford '02. 3.96 GPA, 170 LSAT. Various EC's. Accepted at Yale, Harvard, Columbia, Michigan, UC Berkeley, Georgetown, UCLA, and UC Hastings. Waitlisted at Chicago and Stanford. Good luck to you.
