Actually they mean nothing. The specialty rankings were invented by USNews. Law firms are pretty unfamiliar with them. And they come up with the rankings by asking professors which schools programs are well known in a specific area.
Believe me, they are meaningless. For example, in health law, the 'top' schools are schools like Loyola, Seton Hall, etc. If you look at top health law firms, you'll see lots of grads of schools like GULC & GW or Emory. Of course there's a overall ranking thing included there too. But these schools are actually well known for health law because they have some very prominent alums and also because they have good public health schools.
