ucla is in a better location, it's cheaper, it's a better school...alas. oh, well, that's life, i guess. have you contacted ucla at all about your application? i'm wondering if i should send in another recommendation or write a letter to get myself off the waitlist. ah, forget it. i'm tired of begging. |

Additional recommendations, follow-ups, etc. certainly can't hurt, and it's the conventional wisdom that that's the best course to take to "will" yourself off the waitlist.
However, I have this strange idea that UCLA doesn't really care a whole lot about that. The office people there are cool enough, I've called them and e-mailed, but I think both l-school and b-school admissions are badly understaffed. Nothing to corroborate that, just relative to other schools I'm saying. Or it could be a numbers thing--at UCLA mine aren't high enough to get the velvet glove treatment.
One of my best friend's on Wharton b-school's waiting list right now, and your jaw would drop at the prompt, courteous, personal attention she receives. Ah well, I'm too busy these days to get worked up about the unfairness of it. It's just UCLA's way.
