But here's my $.02 anyway.
Being a minority will certainly help, provided you're not Asian-American because AA's aren't considered "under-represented." Thus, if you're a non-AA minority, you score a "+" in this category and may benefit from your status. If you ARE an AA, then your minority status neither helps nor hurts you.
That being said, HYS and Chicago are a stretch, even with your awesome LSAT score, simply because many other applicants will also have awesome LSAT scores as well as awesome GPAs. Columbia and NYU are also a stretch, but less so; maybe running track will boost you up as an interesting candidate. Your 2.9 is a bit unfortunate; having just 0.1 more would work wonders for you.
I think you have a decent shot at Boalt, Michigan, UVA, Duke, and UPenn. It'll just be up to those admissions' personal preferences. And I know you only asked about top ten schools, but I thought I'd add that you're likely to get into Georgetown, Cornell, and Northwestern.
I hope gurdonark eventually hears your cry for help.
Best of luck. |

thanks for the help. i can't believe that one tenth of a point makes that much of a difference. i am african-american but with the feeling that it means virtually nothing. the scores are what i will lean on but i would not turn away from a little AA help.
