Wow, these 2 field are very different. I do not know you at all, but are you really interested in medicine? You seem to be, as you have been volunteering since you were 16. If you are genuinely interested in medicine, go for it. Despite all the pain and difficulties in the studying/profession, esp. with hmos, etc, my med school and doctor friends genuinely like what they do.
On the other hand, none of my law friends really have a passion for what they do. Granted, this is because most of them have chosen the career trajectory of corporate law. If you have a specific idea of how you can apply the law in the world, go for it. But perhaps you do not.
I had a friend who went to Columbia law school for a year, hated it so much, that he simply did post-bacc courses and is now in med school. I also know 2 people who dropped out of med school after a year and are now in business and academia. (Notice how no one ultimately chose law? :)) These examples simply show that "chosen" career paths have their inevitable twists and turns.

I was just wondering what your friends disliked about Med school that led them to leave after the first year?
