In Reply To: Before law school you should consider opportunity cost of lost income and what you think the future benefit of a law degree will be to you. After law school, the lost income is no longer relevant. It is a sunk cost that cannot be recovered. The only thing that will still matter is your debt v. earnings and potential earnings. At that time, which is the period discussed by the OP, the relevant number is $180G, not 222G and definitely not 292G.
Message: I'm assuming we're talking to this guy pre-law school tho, so any discussion of the horrers of taking on 160k in debt should mention the fact that he's *already* incurring a sizeable cost simply by missing work. Once that's done however, it's true that he only owes the 160k.
