In Reply To: There are plenty of people who live a pretty cushy life on less than $50,000/year....AFTER taxes. $4300/month is about twice what I make now, and I've never been close to uncomfortable, even living in San Francisco. Sure, paying $1000+ a month in debt is rough, but you're not exactly going to be scraping by on $80,000 a year. Don't freak this guy out.
Message: I think only the OP can know his/her individual circumstances and preferences. I agree that lots of people can live well (I wouldn't say "cushy") on less than 50K year, but lots of other people can't. My advice for the OP would be to just take into account his current living standards factoring things like supporting a family etc. into the equation and take a good look at how much money he realistically can expect to earn and for how long. Also, I think this discussion depends to some extent on where the OP is going to law school - some schools are worth 100K but many are not. I think it's wise to factor the school into the decision.
