In Reply To: I've been told that your summer job after your 2nd year of law school primarily depends on your first year grades. Now, say that I transfer from a lower 1st tier school to a top 14 school. How would law firms determine my status? Are they going to look down on the fact that my first year grades are from a lower 1st tier? If I do transfer to a top 14 law school, will I reap the benefits all the other law students who have been there all 3 years will? Is your first job out of law school almost always the firm in which you worked for over the summer? Basically, what I'm asking is whether I will receive the same caliber job after transfering to a top 14 as I would have recieved if I went there from the beginning. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Message: I went from a tier 3 to a top 10. The recruiters will ask you why an awful lot, and truly you should give a lot of thought to what your response will be, but you'll be fine. A few firms will be dismissive, but, generally, it isn't terribly difficult to land a job from one of these schools no matter what your deal is. I know all of the transfers quite well and we all have jobs at the traditional "large firms", not always our first choices, but that's true of many in this economy. What is of paramount importance is that you are able to fully participate in the schools process- many decisions are made in August, and sometimes the bidding is finished and you can only get on waitlists- this factored heavily in my decision. good luck
