USC for California |

Does anyone have any thoughts on the influence a scholarship should have in choosing between a higher- and lower- ranked first tier school?
In my case, it's between USC and Tulane. I just received a letter today from USC, stating that they won't be giving me any grant or scholarship money but they would help me get loans.
I haven't seen a lot of postings about the cost of law school here, and maybe it pays for itself at some schools - but I know that USC isn't HYS, and the thought of having a debt three times my current annual salary in three years makes me nauseous.
So, what's the payoff? How much are those rankings slots worth? Am I just kidding myself to think that my JD shouldn't have to come with enormous debt? |

If you want to work in California (especially if you want to work in Los Angeles), USC is the far better choice, even with the debt.
However, I think if you're getting a LOT of money from Tulane, you should go with Tulane, especially if you want to work down south.
Really, your choice simply hinges on where you want to end up working. If you want to work in neither of the aforementioned regions, you should check out each school's placement stats in whatever city you eventually want to call your home.
Best of luck.
