I've recently been accepted to both ND and UCHastings, and am hoping that you can help me come to a decision about which school to attend.
I'm a CA resident, and will most likely end up practicing in CA.
How is ND's reputation in S.F./L.A.?
Is ND's small class size an advantage?
How competitive is ND?
Are rumors about Hastings' cutthroat competitiveness and grading system true?

yes they are true. i dont think its completely cutthroat, but people here work hard. very hard. if you want the A's, you need to really study and study. if you want to pass, you can do so with a decent amount of studying. some of my classmates made much better schools but chose Hastings b/c they wanted to be in the Bay Area. people here are very smart, at least as smart as the Boalties.
and the grading system isn't all that bad, though its not nearly as kind as boalt's. (you can tell that most of us are boalt wannabes) heres the grading system per class:
A - no more than 20%
B - the rest
C/D/F - no less than 20-25%
profs usually dont give less than a "C" unless they are complete jerks. (which usually isnt the case) Still, Hastings is a good school for practicing around the Bay Area--solid reputation, but not as heavily recruited as Boalt or Stanford. But you do go to school in the city, which is closer to many lawfirms.
if you have any more Qs about Hastings, let me know. you can email me here: acousticguitar@stones.com
