In Reply To: I am a 3L who transferred to Columbia after first year at a second tier school. If you have top grades, then transferring really isn't as difficult as you might think. The application process is the same as when you apply as a first year, with the exception of timing. Most schools won't consider your application until all of your first year grades are in. This means you probably won't find out about your acceptances until late in the summer, which makes housing plans problematic if your new school is far away from where you currently live. Also, definitely shoot for the top schools. They give you the most flexibility in terms of where you can get a job. Plus, you would be surprised how many transfers they actually accept. I was accepted at Penn, NYU and Columbia and attended the transfer orientation for NYU and Columbia (b/c I couldn't decide). Both schools had transfer classes of at least 50 students, many from second tier schools. I personally know of 3 tranfers from Brooklyn in my class and there were a few more last year as well. One very important factor to consider is whether the school will let you participate in on campus interviews (a big bonus to transferring to a top school is access to interviews). Columbia and NYU let transfers participate, but I have heard that Fordham does not. So this is a question you should ask. Hope this info was helpful. Good Luck.
Message: how about transferring into harvard, yale, stanford? on their websites, they're very discouraging about transferring possibilities.
