I was actually thrilled to get my acceptance to UC Davis since it is a first-tier school, and given my LSAT score (159) I was worried about getting into a top tier school at all. But I'm also wondering what good a degree from UC Davis would do me in southern California versus northern. Do you know anything about that? |

US News first tier is not really that big a deal. Lots of good schools are in the 2d tier and even in the 3d tier.
The difference between Davis and Loyola is not that marked, tier aside. Still, with in state tuition, it's my impression that Davis is the better choice.
I did a martindale.com search for LA lawyers from Davis.
191 names popped up; a goodly number of strong boutiques and some large firms mixed in with the small firms. I like Loyola, and during my LA days I had a very bright partner who did Loyola and had good luck finding a job out of law school. But at either Loyola or Davis, BIGLAW will require big grades. I'm not a huge BIGLAW fan myself, but remember, it's probably less important which school you pick than how well you do in school, given those 2 choices.
