In Reply To: While accademics are of course very important, I also want to make sure I go to a school where I have fun. Does anyone know anything about the social atmosphere at Yale, Stanford, Harvard, Columbia, U-Penn or NYU?
Message: I, too, was a Yale undergrad (1999) I loved Yale and knew of many people/friends who loved the Law School. I also know many who are having a fantastic time at Stanford (where they work hard, but also enjoy snowboarding and the beauty of the Bay Area.) On the other hand, of the MANY people I know at HLS, only one really LOVES it. Sure, Cambridge is great, but you should know Harvard Law is extremely competitive. If I recall, there was a McKinsey report awhile back reviewing all of the changes that needed to be made to the school etc. It IS a great school, but be prepared to work VERY hard and be forewarned that some of your fellow students could have the attitude that they need to work against, rather than with you. If you can shrug off the competition and/or win at it yourself, you can be happy there. Of course, my attitude is that it will be YOU and not the school that will make your social life a success...
