In Reply To: Hi Leala I'm a one L, how did you prepare in law school? What is old fashioned slogging away? :-) Can you be more specific if you don't mind? I was really encouraged by your post. It seems like your advice is sincere. Everyone has some stupid gimic they try to emphasize. Thanks Leala
Message: I know I'm not Leala, but as a 3L, I thought I would offer a couple of thoughts. Honestly, I didn't study very much (or at all, actually) in undergrad. Therefore, I wasn't burnt out on studying before I even started law school, unlike some of my law school friends. The sad truth of it is, unless you go to perhaps 4 law schools in the country, grades do matter. Firms (and prestigious gov't jobs) have pretty strick cut-offs of who they can call back. At my school, to work at the type of firm I wanted to, I knew that I needed to for sure be in at least the top 10%, if not higher. That was the carrot that I dangled in front of my eyes to help push me through those *loooonnnggg* nights. The short term pain can create some serious long term benefits.
