How difficult is it to land a summer associate position at a top ten school? Do hundreds of firms come to the schools looking for them or does one have to do a lot of the work on their own? |

If you go to a top 10 school, you're pretty much guaranteed a big firm job, if that's what you want, although certain schools feed certain cities more. When the economy tanks, like it is now, firms cut back on 3L hiring and recruiting at lower ranked schools. The top schools remain relatively unaffected. I don't know anybody here at NYU who doesn't have an offer yet, and many have 5+ offers. Of course, we're mostly looking in NYC firms, which weren't hit as hard as the technology-dependent west coast legal market.
