In Reply To: Is it me, or does it seem a lot tougher getting a summer gig this summer? I'm a Columbia Law Student and all the 2Ls last year were all gloating about how easy it is to get a job. Well since then there has been a aserious economic downturn and it seems like the hey day is over. Or is it? how is everyone else faring out there?
Message: Top 5% doesn't go as far as it used to. Not only am I highly ranked at a top 30-35 school in San Francisco (not too many of em), but I'm on law review and a moot court competition team, AND I externed for a federal district judge last summer. Of 25 screening interviews on campus, I got a whopping 2 callbacks, and have heard back from neither of them yet. Even though the Bay Area is especially tought to break into, someone in my shoes last year would be laughing. Bottom line is that trying to get a job this year, unless of course you go to the mighty Columbia or Harvard or Penn, like some of the above posters, is a joke. And another thing, it seems that the people at my school that did the best this year had one of two things: 1) previous work history, or 2) breasts.
