In Reply To: Unless your law school was one of a very elite few, wouldn't finishing number 100 of 203 have cost you the chance to do BIGLAW even if you'd been 24? Was the problem that you were 31, because grad number 99 or 101 was much younger and did much better, or was the problem just that you finished in the middle of the class, and could not make as much money as in your prior career? I agree that yours is a cautionary tale, but I'm not sure the caution is about age at all.
Message: I think we must all face the facts of "reality" in our society. Although we may like to believe that age is only what we make it, this is NOT the case. Our entire society centers around youth. For example, ads for skin creams for a "wrinkle-free" face (for that younger glow, etc), magazine models, t.v. shows all geared toward younger audiences, on and on. Have you seen a movie such as, "On Golden Pond" lately? In other words, to say that a 34 year old shouldn't have concerns about entering into a new job market due to age, is atrocious. It's natural! I am 34 years old and I say more power to us ALL who have the gusto to try something new, regardless of what society thinks or how others act. We need to be motivated more often. A great many of the "younger" have no idea how the general society reacts to the more mature in business. They will, most assuredly, understand "as time goes by." HiP HiP to ALL!!
