In Reply To: I am having lots of trouble deciding between these four schools. Chicago currently has me on hold while the other three have admitted me. I went to Duke undergrad and loved it, but am not so sure about doing grad there. While I love warm weather, Michigan struck me as the same class atmosphere I would get at Duke. And I don't know anything about Penn's class. Can anyone tell me about the atmosphere at these three schools and how they differ? Will my job opportunities vary a lot? Also-is Chicago's reputation justified to give it the edge over these 3 schools?
Message: Chicago's reputation is arguably a bit greater than the others, but the difference is not monumental. You will have good job opportunities from any of your choices. You can work anywhere in the country from any of your choices. Still, the general rule among equal choices is to go to the one nearest the state in which you want to ultimately practice. If nothing else, the logistics of the job search are much simpler that way. If you get into Chicago, then it might be a basis for an exception to that rule, but I like all your choices. There's some spread among them in the USNWR rankings, but they're all good enough. I like the idea of the recent poster. Go to www.martindale.com. It will let you specify the city, state, and law school of the attorneys. Thus, you can see, say, how many lawyers from Duke work in Seattle, and even, with a bit of digging, what firms they work for. This can be a good rough way to see market penetration in large law and small firms of your school choices. I haven't run your schools through the major cities, but I'm pretty sure you're going to find good placement across the board for all of them. Best fortune, you're a winner, and it's time to pick your prize.
