Message: You should verify the bar requirements in the state where you'd like to practice (or, perhaps, in every state you might think of practicing). If this conviction will prevent you from meeting bar membership requirements, a law school that overlooks your conviction is doing you a huge disservice. If you can't sit for the bar, you shouldn't be admitted to law school, it would be a waste of your time and money. Contact the state bar (search on web for contact information) and verify, perhaps as a hypothetical/ anonymous question, that a person with a misdemeanor conviction will be eligible for bar membership. If the state bar will let you sit for the exam, there's no reason the school shouldn't accept you if you're otherwise qualified. If, after contacting several bar associations, it becomes apparent that some states might exclude you because of the conviction, attending a school in the state where you plan to practice and which will admit you is a good strategy.
