My school only has finals in late April/early May with virtually nothing beforehand. Thus, except for one midterm grade I have nothing to show.
I went to one of the Top-5 school's website and noticed that they admit less than 50 transfers per year. Is there anything you'd suggest I do to increase my chances of being admitted (besides studying my ass off)?
Also, this may be an odd concern - but how is my current school going to feel about my applying? Is there a chance that I could affect my future performance at the school (with certain profs) if I ask these same professors to write a recommendation for me for a higher-ranked school? Never grappled with this issue before so I'd appreciate your input...
Thanks.

Two sayings that are before my time are:
a. You can tell everything
you need to know about anyone by asking them in what order of preference they rank
the Who, the Kinks, the Beatles, and the Rolling Stones, and
b. Every idea worth expressing has already been the subject of a Kinks song.
In this case, it is the latter aphorism which I will apply to the facts at hand.
The Kinks song applicable is
"Paranoia".
I'm sure that law professors being human, just as the rest of us are, there is some law professor in this big, wide world, who will think twice about your wish to transfer. But I can't imagine it is worth your time or effort to worry about this in any material way. Asking a prof for a letter is not going to affect your future performance at your law school. I respectfully suggest that you obsess about your Property I final, but not this. This kind of paranoia is very 1L-ish (it *is* a stressful time), but it's just a passing emotion.
Late May finals still mean you'll usually have grades by August, and maybe by July.
I'm still not certain you have a grade timing problem.
I am not an expert in transferring, since good grades in my first year made me think to myself "I cannot believe I survived this" and not "Gee, I wanna go to Harvard". But the people I know who transferred report that they had cool things on their resumes, like saving the world or helping poor people. I am not sure, though, how you're going to study for finals and save the world, so I suspect that studying is your best refuge.
Best of fortune! I hope you get where you want to be.
