I'm an engineer in the Boston area, and I have to decide on whether I should go to Harvard Business or Boston College Law. I want to make money, and I have other engineering friends who are patent attorneys making big bucks. I don't have the LSAT to get into a better law school, so I'm curious as to whether I should go with the JD or very prestigious MBA. I have a BSEE and three years of engineering experience. I've heard that it is very difficult to break into I-banking if you have an engineering background, even at Harvard. What should I do? My goal is to make money and meet hot chicks.

I made a similar decsion last year, and I chose the law school route, while a good friend of mine went to b-school. I wanted to be a lawyer, but I couldn't get into a top-10 school, so I though about going to B-school (Darden). Now, I'm at a top tier law school (top 40) and loving it (as a 2L). I have my summer job lined up at a big firm ($2400/week). Go with law school, be careful not to look at 'average salary' thrown around at b-schools. At b-schools, maybe %25 of the students get banking jobs making $250K/year, while %75 of the students get jobs making $60K/year. The average may be $150K (I didn't do the math, but you get my point), but the median is a lowly $60K. As an engineer, you'll make a killing at BC law. I see friends who are doing horrible in LS, bottom 1/2, yet they have nicer jobs than me. Go with law school.
