In Reply To: I don't know whether to believe St. John's Alum is really an alum or just a bored student masquerading as such. In any case, I will offer our original reader some advice on entering mediation. I interned this summer at the Mediation Division at one of the NYC courthouses- no I do not attend St. John's, Pace, Cardozo or NY law (I am at Cardozo's "twin ")- while all these schools are solid regional law schools, I think the only schools that are clearly 90% placement positive are NYU and Columbia ..( so transferring to New York Law or Pace (which isnt even in Manhattan!!!) is not a very wise decision. For mediation - I suggest you contact the Mediation departments of the local courthouses. Last fall, there was another St. John's Law 3L who interned here...generally, the position is very administrative but you DO get to observe mediation hearings and contact mediators by phone. Have you considered going to the Career office at SJU and inquiring about mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution programs? Try asking some professors who teach Mediation/Arbitration or similar courses at SJU what they think.... good luck!
