The reason is that the Vault survey is created by associates at other law firms. For whatever reason, these associates like to trash Skadden. I have no idea why.

Skadden is a well recognized name nationally and do well on national surveys. But then again The Red Lobster and The Olive Garden have good name recognition and also may do well on national restaurant surveys. Skadden is a relatively new firm and its lawyers are not regarded very highly at the other top tier firms although this has improved somewhat in the past several years.
