Got a salary question. Im a recent college grad (BS Bus Admin '02) and an even more recent MBA (May '03) from a small school, with typical college work experience (mostly entry level clerical work). Im currently interviewing for an analyst position with a company dealing with mostly market and pricing analysis and then giving presentations to a decision making team based on the outcomes. I kinda had my heart set on 42k, but they are shooting for mid to upper thirties. Culture seems teriffic, benefits are nothing to write home about, but growth opportunity seems to be there. Am I crazy for even considering turing it down? Any thoughts or examples of recent offers that grads are getting would be helpful.

My first question is how many offers do you have? If you don't have any other offers and you're unemployed (assume) why would you pass on a good job? Especially in a depression like economy? You need experience, you better go get while the interest is there.
If you decide to negotiate then do that based on objective information (i.e. salary survey (good ones).
In the economy we are in with no experience it may not be a good idea.
Do what you have to do to get the job done (employment).
