With all due respect, there are some premises that you seem to accept, that I would question.
For example - recruiters are ONLY concerned with getting their commission. Thus, like realtors (who are similarly motivated), a recruiter will try to make you feel you are worth less money, if that is what it takes to "get the deal done." Just like the realtor, who tells you your house is worth a lot less than you want, and if you need to sell anytime soon, you'd better lower your price.
Even more basic, is why anyone would fool with ANY recruiter. If a job is open in your field, and if you would have a shot at it via a recruiter, then you would also have a shot at withOUT a recruiter. Going direct means you will almost certainly get substantially more commpensation (no 30-35% recruiter commission involved).
Anyone who knows the facts about how recruiters work, is extremely reluctant to even give them the time of day.
It is a true statement (don't take my word, since the truth hurts - go read a book that talks about recruiters) that recruiters are far more likely to harm your chances at getting a good job, than they are likely to be of any help to you in securing a good job. |

I disagree. I think people have already heard over and over again, getting a job is more about WHO you know, than WHAT you know. Successful recruiters usually have very specific networks in the field. They can not only "present" your resume to the right people in your target company, but most importanly is the fact that they know about job openings that are not even advertised.
