In Reply To: During the Carter Admin, we had double digit inflation and unemployment. If that's not a economic tailspin, what is? You're quick to absolve Carter of blame but to place blame on Bush for a recession and war that are not of his choosing.
Message: They called it "stagflation" at the time. I'll stand by my statement on that. Carter did not cause the oil problem, he inherited it. He didn't respond well; that's why Reagan and his voodoo economics replaced him. Bush did not cause the recession to start, and he didn't cause 9/11 either. His response to the first is to protect the people who have money and keep it from the people who need it. His response to 9/11 was appropriate, if poorly phrased. But to instigate a war in Iraq with minimal pretext is an invitation to any number of disasters, and in any number of ways. And by turning off our allies on any number of issues in the first 90 days of his administration, and cancelling the agreements with North Korea in the same period, he set the stage for the present situation in that area, with even more possibilities for disasters. But the topic here is jobs and economics . . .
