Can you believe that??!!!! I was looking for job and saw mine out there from company that let me go. I know it was a setup (long story-boss was x-boyfriend) and I believe he let me go because I broke up with him. I know I have no recourse - I had to sign documents that I would never sue so I could get a severance package. Damn!!!!!!!!! |

Sometimes I wonder if a set-up of some type happened to me at the end of my previous situation. I'm not really sure, but I'd like to find out. I too had to sign documents saying that I would not say anything negative about the company in order to receive severance. However, I'd like to know anyway what's going on, just for my own benefit. I feel like I can't address a possible problem if I'm not sure it exists.
What I am thinking of doing is asking a friend of a friend who is a recruiter to call my former employer's HR department under the pretense that they need a reference for me. Then I want them to ask the HR some questions about me, and report back to me what they are told.
I know this is sneaky and deceptive, but these days it seems like the only way to find out what is really being said and to assure myself that it's accurate.
If I find out anything incorrect is being said, I may consider visiting a lawyer, agreement or not. My severance was pretty crappy anyway, and my reputation and integrity are definitely worth more to me long term.
