In Reply To: Until I read US News and World Report (I didn't read it on the web, I actually spent money and bought the grad school edition)I would have automatically assumed that St Johns and Fordham were better schools than any of the CUNY programs (I never had a high opinion of CUNY schools)and that their MBA programs were better than my Alma Mater's as well. A good friend of mine from my undrgrad days at SU was accepted by Syracuse's MBA program, despite a poor undergrad academic record and a less than sterling pre- b school career. I don't think SU's MPA program overshadows it b school. The MPA program comes from the Maxwell school of public affairs, as does economics. MBA's come from Syracuse's school of management which does not have a great reputation. You have an MPA? In what area did you work?
Message: Actually, I was just referring to the overall comparative reputation or general knowledge of both programs. I know of their respective schools inside the Syracuse University system. I do think that Syracuse would have a solid program, and that maybe it's somewhat underrated. Lack of W/E for prospective MBA students is a problem not only for the reason that it may adversely affect a school's reputation, but also for the fact that someone w/o adequate W/E really doesn't have the ability to use the MBA, as well as someone who's been out in the field. Aside from any exceptions, this is just my take on the situation. It's actually a much more widespread problem among bschools than is currently admitted. I did my MPA at John Jay College (CUNY), but chose to work in online media and marketing after graduation during the dotcom era.
