In Reply To: Some lucky people get entry level jobs in the so called "fun" advertising/marketing/communications/creative industries immediately and become the cookie cutter few who seem to rise in the industry regardless of competence. Others eventually get entry level jobs in the area of such industries that they want, but it takes time, for some people too much time to be finacially viable. Other people wind up with jobs in areas other than their original interest but still within these industries. I suspect that most people working in these industries have this type of story. Other people can't find work in these industries and are forced to do other things which may or not be as interesting. In some cases it may pay better and in other cases it doesn't. Some people get their MBAs. If they weren't able to land a job before b school in even a peripheral area of one of these industries before B school, they tend not make marketing their MBA concentration and look for jobs in Finance after B school. Others go to law school, while there are those that become teachers. I know one guy that's an insurance claims supervisor. Some become retail stock brokers and financial planners or consultants. Many try other sales such as RX or with a similar type company. A good percentage of headhunters regardless of current industry specialization, originally wanted to work in those galmour industries. Some wind up in HR and forget how difficult looking for a job is. Others take government jobs or work in retail.
Message: You sure know a lot of stuff. Now here's another tuff one -- why do so many people wanna go into fields like law and advert, when there is such an oversupply of entry-level applicants that their chances are very poor?
