How bad is it to accept an offer, then decine it?
I received an offer a few days ago. Yesterday I get a call from this place I've interviewed for twice already (the first time, the position closed. The second time, they went with someone else). In the e-mail the president of the company invited me to "interview one last time". I'm going in today.
I start my new job July 8th. But if I get an offer today, I can't help but accept it. Do you think one week is a good window of time for the position I've already accepted to find another candidate? Is the bridge mildly burned or are there going to be full-out flames? I'm jumping the gun a little bit, but want to be prepared. |

I'm always afraid to jerk people around like this. Also consider that you're your ideal employer's third best applicant for this job. If you've been on the market long enough, your ideal employer could expect that you'd either be accepting the position out of desperation or dumping another job to take it. Keep the job you've got at least six months. Your ideal employer could be jerking you around as well. Closing a position is a way of rejecting all applicants if a certain one is not within the pool. Why is the position open again? What happened to the second-best applicant?
